Early Magazine Covers

Name of magazine : The Gentleman's Magazine
Year of Publication : 1759

This was one of the first magazines to actually use the word magazine. It was a way of letting the public read about the months news and topics the public was interested in. The Gentleman's Magazine was found in London, England by Edward Cave, in January1731.

The Poster Cover

Name of Magazine: Vogue
Year of Publication: 1936

This magazine contains a woman posing for a portrait. This is considered a poster magazine because around that time color began to compete with graphic illustrations. This could be hung on the wall and used a poster.

Pictures Married To Type

This is a married to type magazine because the cover lines grab the attention of the viewer more than the picture. This magazine has a large title and the cover lines are on all sides of the model.

Name of Magazine: People Magazine
Year of Publication: 2013

In The Forest of Words

In this magazine the model and the cover lines overlap. The model is captured in a specific way that allows the magazine to place more cover lines.

Name of Magazine: New African Woman

Best Magazine Cover of 2013 and The Last 40 Years

Favorite Portrait

The question, "Is God Dead?" appeared on the cover of TIME in red letters against a black backdrop, and this was the first time the magazine used a type-only cover. The article, written by the editors and entitled, "Toward a Hidden God," included the opinions of Christian theologians Gabriel Vahanian, Paul van Buren, William Hamilton, Thomas J. Altizer, and the Rabbi Richard Rubenstein. They believed the death of God had come since God was no longer visible in public life and religion was dead. This article received much backlash from readers, but the radical movement died out by the end of the decade. This is one of two type-only covers in the Top 40. - See more at: http://www.magazine.org/asme/magazine-cover-contests/asmes-top-40-magazine-covers-last-40-years#sthash.ZzfN7wKh.dpuf

There were so many magazine portrait covers, it was difficult to pick. I
made up my mind and picked this one. This was my favorite because the question "Is God Dead?" most likely created a lot of mixed emotions. Its not just a simple question you can answer, you have to analyze it and try to put your shoes in the editors to see what they mean. The magazine cover has good lighting; the black background makes the red letters pop out well, it makes the magazine more serious. They way it has the letters so big and the way they are separated to one word on each line
also allow the viewer to focus its eyes only on the magazine.

Best of 2013!

I think this is one of the best photos of 2013 because you can see the love they had for this elephant. I love all animals and the its just beautiful to see the humans so caring for nature.
The photos exposure and sharpness is just right.

This photo is also the best of 2013 because the sky looks incredible and seeing that the cross has a lot of   respect and meaning towards it is wonderful. The compositions in this photo I would say are filling the space and it has a great depth.

I consider this photo to be one of the best photos of 2013 because the fireworks look astonishing, it lights up the sky beautifully, and it brings joy. The photos sharpness is just right and the exposure as well.

Best Song

Young and Beautiful By Lana Del Rey

This song is the best of 2013 in my opinion because the vocals are awesome and the instruments come together very well. Also her lyrics are great. The things that caught my attention in this song was one verse and how she sounds its amazing. Its the best because its not like any ordinary song you hear now a days of the radio.

Best Movie

Fast & Furious 6

This was one of the best movies of 2013 in my opinion because it was action packed and seeing fast 5; I couldn't wait to see what fast 6 was going to be about. I love all the fast and the furious movies. The things that made my eyes catch this movie was they brought back Letti and Dom and the crew had to join special agent Hobbs catch the bad guy.

Most important news

I think the most important news in 2013 was Nelson Mandela passed away. He was a man who changed history. He was the president of Africa. This was important to me cause I remember learning about him my freshman year and watching the movie Invictus. It was a great learning about how he changed history.

Most Important Person

I think the mot important person of 2013 is Michael Kors because lately thats all you have been seeing and hearing about in fashion. I think he is an important person cause he is changing fashion he is influencing styles.
