Early Magazine Covers



Name of magazine : The Gentleman's Magazine 
Year of Publication : 1759

This was one of the first magazines to actually use the word magazine. It was a way of letting the public read about the months news and topics the public was interested in. The Gentleman's Magazine was found in London, England by Edward Cave, in January1731. 



The Poster Cover 


Name of Magazine: Vogue
Year of Publication: 1936

This magazine contains a woman posing for a portrait. This is considered a poster magazine because around that time color began to compete with graphic illustrations. This could be hung on the wall and used a poster.



Pictures Married To Type


This is a married to type magazine because the cover lines grab the attention of the viewer more than the picture. This magazine has a large title and the cover lines are on all sides of the model.

In this magazine the model and the cover lines overlap. The model is captured in a specific way that allows the magazine to place more cover lines.
